I have tried lots of books but this really works for me, I would recommend earworms. It has given me the confidence to try to speak without having to try to hard.

Earworms Rock

I love the concept of Earworms. The presentation is a cross between the old language lessons of English sentence/foreign language translation/repeat, and overhearing a conversation in a natural setting. Maybe it is because Dutch is similar to English and German, but the learner voice often says, "Oh, this sounds like---" and says a similar-sounding English word. Or the learner reinforces the sentence structure by repeating the English equivalent of the Dutch sentence, often with the verb at the end, This amazingly makes the Dutch easier to remember because of the context clues. I wanted to get Dutch in my ear and a few polite traveler phrases, not expecting to become fluent. However, Earworms Dutch makes me feel sort of fluent in the limited way of travel vocabularies, A perfect introduction for the one-time traveler. The percussive musical underlay somehow helps keep me focused--maybe because it invites physical movement as well as hearing and saying?

Good CD, nice voices and music, but lost the phrasebook (think the dog has eaten it). Anyone know where to get another one without having to buy the CD again?
